Staffing Field Support CEnters

Under Mayor Bill De Blasio, New York City Department of Education field support centers—where high-level education policy meets ground-level school policy—shifted from being interest-based to geographically-based, and this shift included a new staffing structure.

Client: Office of Field Support, New York City Department of Education

Problem: Leaders of the eight new field support centers, eager to begin the important work of creating a more equitable school system, needed to quickly make hires for four newly created positions.

Role: As Interview Project Manager, I was tasked with:

• collecting and vetting resumes for the four new positions at all eight field support centers (28 total hires);
• creating an interview format to maximize efficiency;
• coordinating scheduling with executives conducting the interviews;
• overseeing interviews day of to ensure a smooth run of show; and
• communicating with applicants throughout the process.

Solution: All 28 positions were filled 15 business days after the pool of candidates had been selected for interviewing.
